Birmingham South RV Park - Birmingham, Alabama (June 2026)

We stayed in this park seven years ago. Last time we arrived as it was getting dark and left before sunrise. We didn't have an opportunity to actually "see" this campground. This time we arrived in the early afternoon and actually got to see the park.

This was an independent park, but it had the look and feel of a KOA campground.

We were surprised at the nightly rate of this campground. I guess we are used to camping in Corps of Engineers parks, state parks and military FamCamps where the camping fees are more reasonable. 
I guess because we questioned their fee structure, we were assigned a 30 amp only site, which was cheaper than 50 amp sites.

Our first Airstream trailer was a 30 amp unit, so we know how to do 30 amp math. For example, you cannot run the air conditioner and the microwave at the same time because you will exceed 30 amps and blow a fuse. The AC units on Rosie are more efficient than our earlier RV and we decided to experiment by running one AC and the microwave at the same time. It was working until the electric hot water heater turned on and blew the circuit breaker. We switched off the hot water heater and I went outside to reset the breaker. I think 50 amp Rosie has spoiled us.

Since we arrived in the early afternoon, we had time to walk around and look at the park. Our verdict was this is a really nice and well maintained park. We were glad we stayed in the Birmingham South RV Park. 

We noticed that several campers near us followed our lead and didn't unhitch. That told us we were not the only people spending the night there while on the road. 

We got up a little after 4 am the next morning, dumped our black and gray tanks and disconnected the utilities. We quietly left the park and were on the road before 5 am. Our goal was to be home before the heat of the day.

• Our site was a pull thru
• Our site was gravel and required a few leveling tools 
• Our site had 30 amp electrical service 
• Our site had a water connection 
• Our site had a sewer connection 
• Our site had a cable TV connection We did not connect to the TV cable system
• The park had WiFi service. We were not there long enough to use it
• AT&T placed four bars of 5G service over our site for voice and data 
• The park had restrooms and showers; We did not check these out
• We did not scan to see if Rosie's antenna could pickup TV stations from Birmingham
• According to Apple Maps, here were restaurants and shopping nearby
• This was a pet friendly park 

Birmingham South Campground - Pelham, Alabama (June 2019)

Our first impression of the Birmingham South Campground was that it was formerly a KOA property. It had the look and feel of a KOA. 

We weren’t able to ask any employees about the campground's past because we arrived after the office closed and left before it opened the next day. 

We were traveling without reservations and tried to get a night in several state parks only to find out they were full. We used the AllStays app on our iPhone to locate Birmingham South and we were glad when they said they had space for us. Since we would arrive after the office closed, our reservation and receipt were on the late arrival board next to the office. 

We weren’t the only late arrival that evening. A motor home pulled in ahead of us and there were several other reservations posted on the late arrival board after we picked up our information. 

We were very tired as we pulled into our site. We quickly connected Rosie, our 25 foot Airstream trailer, to the utilities, walked the dog and got ready for bed.
