Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort - Marietta, Georgia (August 2019)

Whoever added the word “resort” to the Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort name had a sense of humor. You know the moment you arrive that this campground is a million miles from any reasonable definition of a resort.

The sign at the "resort"

A more accurate description is a campground with 16 potential nightly sites squeezed in around 40+ long term rentals.

It was easy to visually separate the nightly people from the folks who lived in the park. We simply looked for the road-worthy rigs. When you found one, you located someone who was probably passing through for the night.

Having said that, it doesn’t matter how many imaginary descriptive terms this campground adds to its name. It is practically the only game in town and is normally packed.

There are only a few campgrounds in the Atlanta area. Maybe when compared to the others, this is a resort.

We were in Atlanta to visit the Georgia Aquarium and the American Girl store. I am not sure which of these two Becky was looking forward to more.

Here are some specifics about this campground:
  • Our site was a back-in
  • Our site was paved with uneven and cracked asphalt, mud and weeds
  • There was trash around our site and a nearly two foot deep hole just behind Rosie
  • Our site had a water connection
  • Our site had a sewer connection
  • Our site had a cable-TV connection
  • The campground had two single stall unisex bathrooms with showers for the entire facility
  • The campground provided a WiFi signal
  • AT&T place four bars of  4G service for voice and data
  • The campground had a nice swimming pool
Our goal was to exit the campground no later than 6 a.m. to avoid Atlanta’s known morning traffic problems. We exited the campground around 6:10 a.m.

By the way, our strategy worked. We were in steady traffic as we pulled Rosie through Atlanta at 6 a.m., but there were no slowdowns or stops along the Interstate. We noticed on Google Maps that there were multiple traffic jams along our route an hour later.
